Job Description

Responsibilities

Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures using ICD guidelines and MS-DRG/AWS-DRG assignments
Review medical records to identify principal diagnoses, co-morbidities, complications, and surgical procedures
Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to resolve documentation issues
Prepare responses for DRG validation requests and third-party payer inquiries related to coding
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, surgical procedures, and coding guidelines

Qualifications

AHIMA or AAPC approved Medical Coding Diploma or Health Information Management Degree
Minimum of three years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility
Active credential of Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required
Advanced knowledge of hospital information systems, encoders, and Microsoft Office applications
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
