Responsibilities

Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures following ICD guidelines and DRG assignment.
Review medical record documentation to identify and assign diagnoses and procedures.
Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists on documentation and DRG assignments.
Assist in preparing responses to DRG validation requests and third-party payer inquiries.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA security standards while utilizing hospital information systems and encoders.

Qualifications

Minimum educational requirement: AHIMA or AAPC approved Medical Coding Diploma or Health Information Management Degree or related program.
Minimum of three years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility.
Active credential of Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required at the time of hire.
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and coding guidelines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
