Contract

Fully remote Software Engineer Contractor role focusing on IMS database administration within z/OS environments.

Supporting IMS database administration across development, testing, and production environments
Conducting performance monitoring, tuning, backups, and forward recoveries
Managing DBRC/RECONS reports, validating recoveries, and resolving database-related abends
Assisting developers with database access issues and troubleshooting application-level problems
Creating, modifying, and maintaining IMS database definitions and structures
Collaborating with mainframe systems and application teams to ensure uptime, compliance, and security
Providing technical support for batch COBOL and JCL jobs during deployments and after hours

7+ years working within z/OS environments and mainframe utilities like TSO, SYSVIEW, SDSF, and IBM utilities

5+ years of experience managing IMS databases, including DBRC, HAL databases, forward recoveries, and catalog functions

Strong command of JCL, COBOL (Batch and CICS), VSAM, and troubleshooting tools

2+ years of REXX programming experience within a z/OS environment

Deep understanding of performance tuning, security monitoring, and production support processes
