Job Description

The Business Unit Manager will be responsible for strategic development, growth, and operational performance in New York. They will lead multi-disciplinary teams, develop business strategies, and collaborate with internal and external partners.

  • Strong leadership skills, goal driven, adept at attracting and developing talent. Demonstrated potential to lead even larger organizations in the future.
  • Comfortable and successful in client and business development, pre-positioning for long term opportunities.
  • Strong network among New York State and New York City agencies.
  • Ability to mobilize, organize and energize cross-functional teams for success in winning and delivering complex projects.
  • Strategic thinker, bringing market-facing ideas and strategies, new service delivery methodologies, and expertise to decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Highly motivated to achieve annual business goals while at the same time investing and building for longer term growth and stability.
  • Sophisticated understanding of the engineering market in New York
  • High level of comfort being a trusted advisor to infrastructure owners and clients in public and private markets.
  • Interest and ability to leverage Dewberry’s national transportation, water, structural and MEP portfolio to grow our local practice.
  • The ability to manage complex projects.
  • Experience with selling and delivering design-build services. Contractor connections are important.
  • Expert communicator, motivator, and influencer.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong trusting relationships (internal to an organization and external with clients and teaming partners).
  • Active involvement in leadership of industry organizations. Interest and ability to present at conferences and lead teams to participate in brand-elevating activities.
  • Team player and mentor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 20 years of experience with New York public and private sector clients and projects
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree or Architectural Degree; advanced engineering or design degree a plus
  • New York PE or AIA license required
  • 15+ years’ experience in project management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
