Job Description

The Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist role at Kai USA is vital to ensuring adherence to customs and trade standards as well and regulatory laws across our U.S. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and implement these standards, oversee drawback claims, and provide strategic feedback in customs and foreign trade.

Responsibilities

  • Import transactions, including issuance of clearance instructions, monitoring, record keeping and auditing.
  • Identify and file duty drawback claims and establish record keeping system for this.
  • Reconcile entry discrepancies, submit post-entry adjustments, and protests as required. Research and audit import / export invoices and reconcile discrepancies in accordance with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
  • Drive the implementation of new laws and compliance processes through project management, including leading meetings, documenting progress, and addressing questions.
  • Stay current with CBP, USTR, USDA, FDA, FTC, state requirements, and Prop 65 compliance.
  • Interface with customs brokers, suppliers and service providers to ensure consistency with defined import/export processes. Respond to inquiries from customs brokers, government agencies, customers and vendors.
  • Work with internal team members to support and provide guidance on international trade and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide compliance guidance and support for internal team members.
  • Work with international affiliates to ensure import certificates and supporting documentation are in place.
  • Review product descriptions and technical data to determine import classification and record keeping related to import compliance.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years import/export drawback claims compliance experience is preferred, or a legal background either as an internship or earned degree would be greatly beneficial to this position.
  • Strong Microsoft Office experience. Especially strong Excel skills including being able to create a V-Lookup.
  • Self-starter, with strong critical and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
