Job Description

The Server Administrator II participates in all aspects of design, analysis, implementation, and support of systems, software, or other solutions for Enterprise Information Technology and acts as a contributing member for all assigned projects.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in the maintenance, monitoring, reporting, and support of operating systems, applications, and services.
  • Perform routine problem analysis and resolution design for systems and applications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft PowerShell scripting.
  • Troubleshoot problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, communication, network, and peripheral equipment problems; makes repairs and corrections where required in accordance with SLA guidelines.
  • Participate in the Change Advisory Board (CAB) to ensure the change management processes are met and followed.
  • Participate in design, planning, installation, and support of computer systems, network hardware, software applications, and peripherals.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP network fundamentals and related equipment.
  • Understanding of Windows Server technologies (2016 and 2019 preferred).
  • Provides support for cloud-based infrastructure components (i.e., VM Instance-based Linux or Windows Servers).
  • Conducts Monitoring of utilization, performance, and availability of system components & services.
  • Conducts log analysis and patch management to ensure high system integrity and security.
  • Effectively use Help Desk ticketing system for incident and problem management, customer interaction, and follow-up.
  • Create and maintain System Configuration documentation.
  • Maintain reports regarding system downtime, plans for preventative maintenance, and disaster recovery.
  • Active contribution towards Cross-Training initiative for Tier II Platforms.
  • Assist with the management of Active Directory, Group Policies, Users, and Computers.
  • Properly prioritize, coordinate, and escalate unresolved issues or emergencies to other support tiers/teams in accordance with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Liaises with end-users, management, and other systems departments.
  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department management.
  • On-call for production system support.
  • Provide shift-based continuous monitoring of network and storage performance providing Tier 2 & 3 support for a global network infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in computer-related curriculum and 4+ years network and operating system experience, or AA degree and 6 years' experience in network and operating system design, test, and maintenance or equivalent related experience.
  • Experience supporting client-issues with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Platforms and Federation Services (ADFS, SAML, Duo, Microsoft Auth etc.).
  • Experience deploying production systems in the cloud (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Experience with Azure Security and Identity services (e.g., Security Center, Azure Active Directory, RBAC, NSGs / ASGs).
  • Experience with Azure Networking services (e.g., VNETs, Load Balancers, Front Door, ExpressRoute, Traffic Manager, Content Delivery Network).
  • Basic knowledge of IT security regulations and standards such as ISO 27001.
  • Experience managing/implementing Windows Server technologies (2016/2019 preferred), Active Directory, and Group Policy management.
  • Previous experience supporting the following: Microsoft SQL 2008/2012/2014/2016 (DB Maintenance, Access), Microsoft Exchange 2016/2019 and Office 365 (Mailbox maintenance), Microsoft IIS.
  • Previous experience supporting an Enterprise Backup and Enterprise SAN platforms.
  • Expertise and practical experience with Microsoft server products and VMware technologies (i.e., Hyper-V, DFS, Active Directory, Exchange\O365, VMware, vSphere, and vSAN).
  • Good understanding of SCCM & its functionality.
  • Experience supporting Server compute infrastructure using Cisco UCS server.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and related network services (i.e. DNS, SMTP, DHCP, Load-Balancers, etc.).
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment.
  • Must have well-refined troubleshooting skills, ability to determine the root cause of a problem and identify and resolve systemic problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, while effectively focusing on priority issues.
  • Ability to create, document, and follow processes and procedures.
  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
  • Incumbent must hold one or more of the following: CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), VMware Certified Associate (VCA).
