Job Description

Join our team at Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens as a Recovery Coach. You will have a significant impact on the lives of individuals struggling with mental illness and substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a recovery agent by providing and advocating for effective recovery-based services
  • Work with individuals engaging in substance misuse to articulate personal recovery goals through one-to-one and group sessions
  • Use lived experience with substance use to provide structured non-clinical support services
  • Identify behaviors that may indicate difficulty adapting to treatment and report concerns
  • Teach individuals how to combat negative self-talk and overcome fears
  • Raise awareness of social and support services for recovery
  • Assist clients with securing necessary resources for independence and self-reliance
  • Escort clients to medical or entitlement programs
  • Encourage clients to participate fully in program activities to achieve recovery goals

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Provisional New York State Peer Specialist Certification required
  • Current or former client of a substance use program
  • History of substance use and at least one year of recovery
  • Ability to read and write
  • Knowledge of computer programs
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with people with behavioral disabilities
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred
