Tips
Read the whole offer letter before you accept: the job title, the pay and what it includes, the joining date, probation, notice period and work location.
Reply before the deadline in the offer. If you need more time, ask for it rather than staying silent.
Repeat the key terms (job title, joining date and pay) in your email, so that there is a written record of what you agreed.
If the company asks you to sign and return the offer letter, do that as well. The email doesn't replace it.
Don't resign from your current job until you have the offer in writing and have accepted it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I accept a job offer by email?
Thank the recruiter, say clearly that you accept the position, and confirm your joining date and the pay stated in the offer. Ask about the next steps and keep it short.
Should I accept an offer on the phone or by email?
Both. If you are ready, say yes on the call, then confirm it by email the same day so there is a written record.
Can I negotiate before accepting?
Yes, and before is the time to do it. Once you have accepted, it is much harder to change the terms. The salary negotiation email template can help.
What if I need a different joining date?
Ask before you accept, or as soon as you know. Suggest a specific date and give a short reason, such as your notice period.
