Job Description

PEOPLE is hiring an executive editor to oversee the newsroom for the new PEOPLE app. The executive editor will report to the app’s editorial director and will be responsible for managing a news team that works around-the-clock.

Responsibilities

Prioritizing assignments across multiple verticals throughout business hours, editing as needed
Reviewing daily analytics to make strategic recommendations
Managing and mentoring a team of producers, helping them achieve individualized KPIs
Managing organizational efforts like an editorial calendar, staffing calendar and training/onboarding
Supporting the editorial director with research and strategy for longterm planning

Qualifications

BA or BS or equivalent experience
Min 8 years experience working in a high volume, high velocity digital news operation. Must have 2 years of leadership experience in a digital newsroom. Bonus for social-native experience.
Strong management skills, with an ability to serve as a coach to junior talent
Impeccable news judgement and an ability to balance priorities while driving traffic and engagement
Strong editing skills and impeccable journalistic standards and attention to detail
An advanced understanding of analytics and audience development
Strong understanding of the general interest news landscape and evolving audience interests
